The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has designated four Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) health centers as Baby-Friendly under the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen maternal and child health and provide a supportive healthcare environment for mothers and infants.
The newly designated facilities are Leabaib Health Center, Umm Slal Health Center, Al Thumama Health Center and Muaither Health Center.
The recognition reflects the centers’ commitment to implementing standards established under the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), while providing appropriate care and support for mothers and children.
The designation followed a comprehensive evaluation conducted by a team of specialized Ministry of Public Health assessors accredited by WHO. The assessment examined the facilities’ compliance with the standards and requirements of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative.
With the addition of the four health centers, the total number of healthcare facilities in Qatar holding Baby-Friendly status has risen to nine, following the earlier designation of five facilities.
The Ministry said the expansion reflects progress in implementing the initiative across Qatar and strengthening healthcare practices that enhance maternal and child care.
Dr. Salah Abdulla Alyafei, Director of the Health Promotion Department at the Ministry of Public Health, said the designation reflects the Ministry’s continued efforts to advance maternal and child health and strengthen the quality of care provided to mothers and infants.
He also highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to supporting healthcare facilities in both the government and private sectors and enhancing the skills of healthcare professionals, contributing to the wider implementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative across Qatar.
The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative is a global programme launched by WHO and UNICEF to encourage healthcare facilities to provide high-quality care and a supportive environment for mothers and infants.
