The inaugural Jadal summit, a three-day research forum hosted by Qatar Foundation’s Al-Mujadilah Center and Mosque for Women, commenced with the attendance of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, and Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO 1 of the foundation. Held at Al-Mujadilah, which opened in February 2024 to serve Muslim women globally, the summit has drawn over 100 delegates from diverse regions, including North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
"Jadal," meaning "dialogue" or "discourse" in Arabic, brings together prominent Muslim women scholars, researchers, and practitioners to explore the theme of "Muslim Women in Public Life." This central theme is examined through three sub-themes: the intersection of Muslim women and the law, women's lives and historical contexts, and Muslim women's well-being and health.
Inspired by the story of Khawla bint Tha’laba (r.a.) and her dialogue with Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), Al-Mujadilah Center and Mosque for Women and the Jadal summit promote meaningful discourse. The summit reflects Her Highness’s vision of a Muslim society where women's active participation, contributions, and perspectives are valued and integrated into contemporary Muslim thought and public discussion. Dr. Sohaira Z. Siddiqui, Executive Director of Al-Mujadilah, inaugurated the summit, describing it as a true representation of the center's mission. The event runs from January 26-28.
