At the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Qatar, represented by Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, voiced deep concerns over escalating global human rights challenges.
In her address to the high-level segment, Al Misnad highlighted the severe impact of ongoing armed conflicts, which are characterized by widespread violations of fundamental human rights and international humanitarian law. Focusing on the Palestinian situation, she lamented the enduring suffering of the Palestinian people, particularly the devastating consequences of the recent 470-day aggression in Gaza. She cited near 170,000 casualties, predominantly children and women, and the destruction of over 90 percent of Gaza’s vital infrastructure. She strongly condemned the blockade, starvation tactics, humanitarian aid restrictions, and the displacement of approximately 2.3 million Palestinians.
She emphasized Qatar’s collaborative efforts with Egypt and the United States, culminating in a ceasefire agreement that facilitated prisoner and hostage exchanges, large-scale humanitarian aid delivery, and the rehabilitation of essential services. She called upon the international community to enhance humanitarian aid efforts and support the UN in ensuring its safe and effective distribution in Gaza. Furthermore, she noted that under the directives of Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar established a dedicated aid route to provide fuel to the Gaza Strip.
While recognizing the ceasefire as a critical achievement, she stressed its sustainability depends on full adherence to commitments by all parties, including unimpeded humanitarian aid access, reconstruction initiatives, and the creation of conditions for the safe return of displaced Palestinians.
