The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has authorised the use of the valid Qatari National ID (QID) card in place of the health card for residents accessing government healthcare services.
In a circular issued by Minister of Public Health HE Mansoor bin Ebrahim bin Saad Al Mahmoud, the Ministry confirmed that residents can present their national ID when visiting Hamad Medical Corporation, the Primary Health Care Corporation, and other government health sector institutions.
The circular clarified that the fees previously approved for obtaining and annually renewing the health card will continue to be collected from residents. When the national ID is presented, the individual’s health number will be verified through the existing systems at healthcare facilities, allowing patients to receive the required medical services.
According to Circular No. (10) of 2026, the printing of health cards for residents will be discontinued. The Ministry has therefore urged both citizens and residents to ensure they carry their national ID cards when visiting health facilities.
The move forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to streamline administrative procedures and unify official documentation used across government services, a step aimed at enhancing efficiency and improving the overall patient experience within the healthcare system.
